Oregon Humanities Center Matching Challenge

What are the humanities? The humanities are the stories, the ideas, and the words that help us make sense of our lives and the world. The humanities help us address the challenges we face together in our families, our communities, and as a nation.

The Oregon Humanities Center (OHC) supports UO faculty and graduate students who work in humanities disciplines such as literature, ethics, philosophy, history, comparative religion, and more. We helped Geography professor Peter Walker discover how the citizens of Harney County chose cooperation over conflict during the Malheur occupation. We helped English professor Mary Wood and International Studies professor Kristin Yarris develop a class on “Mind, Madness, and Society.” We helped graduate student Mariko Plescia finish her dissertation on justice and documentary film in Latin America.”

Because people like you have given to the OHC, we have been able to help UO faculty and graduate students, and bring engaging speakers to Oregon. This year our theme is "Convergence: intersections between the sciences and the humanities." These lectures will take place in winter and spring terms. View our compelling line up of speakers.
