Charity Woodrum Documentary Project

Play a role in getting a documentary film produced! Your contribution will help cover the cost of filming this spring and summer, a crucial part of creating this inspiring film about a UO alumna who is overcoming staggering odds in pursuit of a dream of becoming an astrophysicist.

Charity Woodrum was raised in rural Oregon, the first in her family to graduate from high school. She was a junior at UO when she lost her husband and young son tragically. With help from her UO advisor, friends and total strangers, Charity graduated and is now working toward her Ph.D. in astrophysics at the University of Arizona. Her dream: to become an astronaut or a NASA researcher. Charity’s story of tenacity and resilience will inspire girls and women to pursue STEM education and careers, will show people from low-income backgrounds that there’s hope for a bright future, and share the impact of human kindness and connection.

Funds raised will go toward travel expenses for the director/producer and a videographer, gear rental and production costs to film additional key interviews and visual elements in multiple locations in Oregon and Tucson, Arizona, the next step in production. Additional funds are being raised separately to cover additional filming, writing and editing, which will take place over the next year.
