The Oregon Law Students Public Interest Fund is a student-run organization that funds summer stipends for Oregon Law students working in unpaid public interest positions. Students gain hands-on experience working for legal non-profits. The work done through OLSPIF also benefits underserved communities that often do not have access to justice.

OLSPIF-funded students serve the public interest by assisting:

- Juveniles aging out of foster care

- Migrant farm workers

- Environmental protection organizations

- Domestic violence survivors

- Low-income individuals

- And many more!

“The work done through OLSPIF directly benefits students, but it also indirectly benefits the communities that they represent,”

Casey Dreher, 2019 stipend recipient

“It’s almost impossible to work in nonprofit without a stipend, [OLSPIF] made it possible for me to do public interest work in the first place.”

Robert Mellinger, 2019 stipend recipient

Typically, OLSPIF puts on an event every year to raise money to provide stipends to law students who work at legal nonprofits over the summer. The stipends allow students to support themselves while gaining valuable experience working in public interest areas. Perhaps more importantly, students typically expand the capacity of nonprofits to serve clients in need.

With our reality shifting in response to the pandemic, we cannot reasonably expect to hold an in-person event for our annual OLSPIF fundraiser this 2020-2021 academic year. We plan to hold a virtual event; however, because of the importance of stipends to students, we don’t want to rely solely on the outcome of this event. We need your help in order to raise 5 student stipends this Fall!
