Hello, we are Chinese Banzhang (班长), a student led committee working to connect students and Chinese language and culture. We are raising funds to support our 2025 Chinese New Year Event. This year’s Chinese New Year falls on a Wednesday, meaning that many of those who celebrate will not have an easy opportunity to go home for the holiday. We would like to provide a space to allow for group celebration of Chinese New Year on campus for all who would like to partake! The event will feature food, beverages, games, and a presentation educating attendees on Chinese New Year and Chinese horoscopes’ significance within Chinese culture. We will also discuss Chinese new year’s impact in other countries among overseas Chinese (华侨) communities and the rest of the world.
In the past, we received funding from the United States government to cover the cost of food, decorations, and other supplies. Unfortunately, following the dissolution of the West Coast Chinese Flagship programs, that funding is no longer available. Chinese Banzhang was created to fill the gap left by the dissolution of the Chinese Flagship Program, but we need your support!
For this campaign, our goal is to raise $1000. Your gift will help us purchase essential supplies, including catering from a local Chinese food vendor, ingredients to make dumplings, and other traditional New Year treats, as well as new paper lanterns, decorations to celebrate the Year of the Snake, and a new poster for the Chinese Banzhang. Funds will also help purchase supplies for fun, interactive games and activities designed to spread awareness and cultivate a deeper understanding of this important Chinese holiday.
We are deeply grateful for your generosity and kindness, whether through donations or by spreading the word. Your support is making a real difference, and together, we are one step closer to reaching our goal. Thank you for being a part of this journey!
