Support one-on-one, intergenerational connections between older adults and college students
With your support, we can create welcome baskets for each elder and student match (pair) filled with comfort items that make senior assisted living residents feel valued and start these relationships with warmth. Your support helps us bring joy and companionship, in connection to the older adults who need it most.
Perfect Pair is new to the University of Oregon, and we are so excited to be paired to Waterford Grand Assisted Living. We can't wait to start making those connections. At the same time, we want to encourage pairs to re-engage with their passions that maybe they haven't been able to get back into by offering individualized and accessible programming.
In an aging society, loneliness and social isolation are among of the greatest public health concerns. While certainly these experiences are relevant across the lifespan, research has demonstrated that fifty percent of individuals aged over 60 are at risk of social isolation, and 1/3 will experience some degree of loneliness later in life. In addition, there exists a growing social gap between generations. Our goal is to combat that. So many adults have expressed how this program has changed their perspective on aging, and they wish everyone in their situation could be a part of a community like this that truly sees them. Eighty percent of individuals have reported an increase in mood when participating in these face-to-face meetings in Perfect Pair.
We would love to have your support in fostering these intergenerational connections!
Thank you.
