This project will be launching soon.
Keep KWAX Spinning the Classical Discs!
On Giving Tuesday, share your love of classical radio with a gift to KWAX 91.1 FM, the UO’s classical music station. An anonymous donor has issued a challenge: Make a gift, and your gift up to $5,000 will be doubled!
Last July, the Corporation for Public Broadcasting was suddenly shut down, costing KWAX more than $100,000 in annual CPB funding. Your gift on Giving Day will help bridge the gap.
KWAX has deep roots at the university. Founded in 1951 as a 10-watt, student-run station, it has grown into a 20,000-watt professional operation serving 26,000 weekly listeners in the Eugene area and many thousands more beyond. From symphonies and concertos to intimate chamber works, KWAX curates a rich blend of the classical canon and lesser-known gems that define the breadth of the genre.
Professional hosts Kimberly Powell and Rocky Lamanna are on the air live weekdays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Specialty programs devoted to piano, guitar, choral, Latin, and Baroque music fill evenings and weekends. The station also carries broadcasts from the Metropolitan Opera, the New York Philharmonic, and other world-renowned ensembles.
Keep classical radio thriving at the UO. Listen, contribute, and help us meet the challenge!
