UO Weight Lifting Club

Hello all! Thank you so much for taking the time to take a look at our fundraiser for the University of Oregon Weightlifting Club. For those of you that are not familiar with weightlifting, it consists of two lifts: the snatch and the clean and jerk. It is a long time Olympic sport (Olympic Weightlifting) with a rich history and culture that us participants of the UO’s Club respect and try to continue and cherish. Our president began this club over two years ago and it has grown into the largest weightlifting club in the state of Oregon.

The goal of this project is to support our athletes, with the goal of getting everyone out on the local and national stage. We have the opportunity to send multiple athletes to compete in Las Vegas in March (less than 45 days away) for University Nationals which is obviously an expensive trip. Not only would funding support those endeavors but would go to the club’s local endeavors as well. Funding would help to pay for training space, acquiring more equipment, and entry fees into local meets for athletes at lower levels with hopes to get to the national stage one day soon! The best way to grow in this great sport is to get out on the platform and compete. Practice is obviously important but, in any sport, participating in the competition side is the most beneficial way to mature.and the only university club in the entire state.

In our club, team is a foundational word; we strive to make one another better and we feed off each other’s wins and failures. We engage with each other every day and we feed off the confidence and stimulus with the stimulus we receive from team support, allowing us to train with purpose and desire.    Weightlifting is a life long journey that is not about strength as many would believe, it is a trainer of mental fortitude. The sport can be unforgiving if taken lightly, and it takes incredibly hard work for even the smallest steps forward, but it is something we members have all fallen in love with. The dynamic of work ethic needed to continue through training and the confidence to get out and compete is unmatched by any other endeavor many of us have experienced, but the lessons learned through weightlifting are universal: perseverance, grit, and teamwork.e receive from team support. We all train with a purpose and with a desire.
