The Oregon Humanities Center (OHC) forms a vibrant intellectual community at the heart of the University of Oregon, providing compelling public lectures and generous support for humanities research, teaching, and publication. Your investment is vital to sustaining and advancing the humanities at the UO and beyond.
When COVID-19 arrived in March, the OHC quickly pivoted to offer our events online. Our plans for this academic year are inspired by our conviction—stronger now than ever—that the arts and humanities sustain, teach, and uplift us during times of crisis. This fall the OHC will present virtual talks by current research fellows and UO faculty who have new books, and lectures by guest speakers for their 2020-21 Climate Justice series.
You can maximize your impact on the humanities by making a gift today thanks to Amanda and Alex Haugland—who have generously offered to match gifts to the OHC through December 31, 2020. If you made a gift to the OHC during academic year 2019 -2020, the Haugland’s will match your gift dollar for dollar. If this is your first time donating to the OHC, or you made your most recent gift during academic year 2018 – 2019 or before, they will donate $2 for every dollar you contribute.
Deepens Our Understanding of the Human Experience
OHC research fellowships inspire UO faculty to write new books, empower graduate students to complete dissertations and embark on fulfilling careers, and introduce undergraduates to the rigors of conducting research and sharing their discoveries at a symposium.
Elevates Student Learning Experiences
OHC teaching fellowships bring fresh ideas and approaches to UO humanities classrooms by giving instructors the chance to teach subjects they do not normally teach in ways they would not normally teach them. Help instructors equip students to think critically, reason carefully, and ask meaningful questions—all indispensable skills in our rapidly changing world.
Expands the UO Humanities Community
We can’t wait to welcome you to our vibrant community of intellectuals and researchers. Donor support allows us to host or co-sponsor dozens of free public lectures, performances, film screenings, and other events featuring accomplished speakers, writers, artists, musicians and more.
