The Lyllye Reynolds-Parker Black Cultural Center is the engine for Black students’ academic success at the University of Oregon. The BCC is a welcoming and supportive space that helps Black students harness the resources necessary to navigate their social, cultural, and academic experience. By investing in the success of Black students, the BCC enhances the cultural and social development of the entire University of Oregon community.
Your gift to the LRP BCC Scholarship Fund will help fully realize the BCC's aspirations for UO by creating 16 new scholarships that empower BCC student leaders to continue their path to a UO degree in spite of financial challenges. “I’m so proud that the Lyllye Reynolds-Parker Black Cultural Center is now part of our UO campus," says the new fund's lead donor, Ms. RoseMarie Beatty. "Please join me in making a gift to support the center’s important ongoing mission.”
Fund Purpose Language:
The Lyllye Reynolds-Parker Black Cultural Center Scholarship Fund will provide scholarship awards to students at the University of Oregon, to ensure continuation of enrollment or degree completion. The University of Oregon will organize a scholarship committee, convened by the Coordinator of the Lyllye Reynolds-Parker Black Cultural Center in the Office of the Dean of Students, that will include faculty and staff from the Center for Multicultural Academic Excellence, Indigenous, Race, and Ethnic Studies and Black Studies departments, and greater UO community. Individual awards will range between $750-$5,000 and be made available to students who demonstrate exceptional volunteer service to the Lyllye Reynolds-Parker Black Cultural Center; participate in the Umoja Residential Community/Academic Residential Community; and/or pursue a minor in UO’s Black Studies or Indigenous, Race, and Ethnic Studies Program.
RoseMarie Beatty, BA '92, studied public relations at the UO, where she participated in Black Student Union Activities and pledged Delta Theta Sigma, attending sorority events in Portland and Las Vegas. “I was pondering what I care about, and the legacy I will leave when I am gone. Then I thought, why wait? I can make a difference right now,” she explains of her gift. “I want to help others have the same great UO experience that I had. As alumni, we should help open the doors for Black students.”
Lyllye Reynolds-Parker, BA '91, was born in Eugene in 1946 and was a member of the first graduating class of Henry D. Sheldon High School.
