Welcome to #BikeSmartUO
The UO Bike Program works hard to make cycling accessible to everyone on campus. In operation since 2008, the UO Outdoor Program / Bike Program is staffed by a team of 5 dedicated students who manage year-round bike rentals and loans, run maintenance classes and clinics, and host fun group events designed to teach our 24,000 students and 5,000 faculty and staff that biking is an easy, cost effective, and practical way to get to and around campus.
This year we’re excited to roll out #BikeSmartUO, an exciting new safety initiative specifically targeted to UO freshmen. In just a few weeks we’ll welcome over 5,000 first-year students who’ll arrive from all over the world. Many of our youngest Ducks come from non-bike-friendly cities and have little to no experience navigating life on two wheels. We want to get new students on bikes and are committed to helping every rider have a safe and positive experience.
#BikeSmartUO is an interactive series of print materials, online information, and staffed around-town group rides that will be promoted campus-wide. Our goal is to introduce students to campus and community bike resources, teach them the rules of the road, and train them to safely navigate campus and nearby bike routes.
We’re working closely with the UO Health Center, UO Transportation and Police Departments, and UO Campus Housing to get the word out, but need your help to sustain our year-round efforts. You can help us keep the cost of staffed group rides and give-away safety equipment like lights and reflectors at a minimum, and, you will help keep bike safety information in front of students year-round.
Your gift, like any well-functioning bike part, will help keep cycling safe.
Thank you!
