We did it!
Thanks to thirty generous donors, the UO CDS department will be able to connect graduate BIPOC students with BIPOC professionals in speech-language pathology and other associated fields to mentor, empower, and build stronger networks. And we'll be able to fully fund the program for five years!
Your help will make a difference in the lives of the 25 BIPOC students that will receive mentors, the 25 mentors who will form meaningful relationships with future speech-language professionals, and the clients that these students will one day serve.
From the bottom of our hearts, thank you!
5 Days Left! Spread the word to help us meet our stretch goal
For international students like Woody Zong, creating a community to support them as they venture far from their families and friends at home is vital. "Especially as an international student, I don't have my family support in this country, so those mentors and supports are needed. It's pretty significant."
Together, we can create the supports that students like Woody need. Meeting our stretch goal would change the lives of fifteen students and develop a community in Eugene that encourages future speech-language pathologists to remain in Oregon.
If you have already donated, thank you! We could still use your help in spreading the word via Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn.
A student's perspective on the importance of mentors
"I think this program is so important because being a first generation Latina at a predominantly white institution it has not been easy to find mentors that are in positions I hope to be in. Even though I have had very few mentors, those mentors that I have had have been a really big help."
- Julisa Silva Martinez
We're two thirds of the way to meeting our stretch goal and funding the program for five years. Your gifts make a difference to students like Julisa navigating primarily white institutions as students of color. Thank you to everyone who has already contributed!
Help us reach our goal by spreading the word to family and friends and share on Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn.
We're going even further!
Thanks to the generosity of Spencer and Sydney Brush and fourteen other donors, we're nearly at our original goal of $3,750 and are asking you to help us fund the program for 2 more years, for a total of five years.
Help us reach our $2,500 stretch goal by spreading the word to family and friends and share on Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn.
Thank you for your support!
Meet Kodjo Wilder, BCUSP mentor
"When I reflect on my graduate school experience, I wish I had a mentor to guide me through the process. Even more so, to have a mentor that looked like me."
- Kodjo Wilder, Assistant Principal, Cascade Middle School and BCUSP Mentor
For BIPOC students, mentorship can make all the difference. That's why BCUSP is so important to help CDS students find a supportive community. Your generosity can be life-changing, not just for students, but for professionals in the community and the clients our students will one day serve.
Over a third of the way there!
As of now, we have raised 38% of our goal to fund five BIPOC professionals in speech-language pathology and other associated fields to mentor graduate BIPOC students in the University of Oregon Communication Disorders and Sciences program.
Thanks to 11 generous donors, Building Community for Underrepresented Students and Professionals (BCUSP) is on the path to success! But, we still have a long way to go to meet our goal of $3,750. So, how can you help? Start by spreading the word about the campaign to your friends, family, and loved ones and encourage them to give or share it widely. Any support helps!
