Ignite a journey of meaningful change for UO students by supporting the Media in Ghana study abroad program, a unique opportunity based in Accra, Ghana’s capital.
This program, rooted in the School of Journalism and Communication (SOJC), offers students an immersive experience that transcends traditional study abroad programs. Students in the program are strategically matched with news, advertising, public relations, and non-profit organizations, completing internships that provide hands-on experience in diverse communication fields. Aside from the internships, Ghana’s historical significance in the trans-Atlantic slave trade and the U.S. Civil Rights Movement is a focus of the program, which contributes to a rich educational experience.
Students report powerful and even life-changing outcomes because of the program. Your invaluable contribution will play a pivotal role in providing deserving students with an unparalleled educational and life experience.
However, financial barriers often stand in the way of those eager to embark on this journey. Your support becomes the key to unlocking this transformative opportunity. A contribution of $8,500 ensures a full scholarship for one student, covering essential elements like flights, housing, and field trips in our 2024 program. Your generous support will not only enable aspiring individuals to participate in this experience but also contribute to a ripple effect of personal growth, increased social awareness, and valuable multicultural work experience – a priceless investment in shaping the leaders of tomorrow.
Over the past 20 years, students have reported a series of powerful moments that shape their perspectives forever. From overcoming culture shock to gaining confidence, participants forge deep connections with each other and their Ghanaian colleagues. They build long-lasting relationships, critically reflect on their experiences, and share professional accomplishments they are proud of.
The Media in Ghana program has an effect that extends beyond personal growth; it raises awareness of human relationships and social injustice. Students emerge with a commitment to act. This commitment often leads to career-changing decisions, ranging from building experiential education programs in Cape Town to pursuing careers in international development for social justice. The immersive multicultural work becomes a cornerstone in their professional journey, a valuable asset in navigating the complexities of today's globalized world. This program is a catalyst for societal, professional, and personal transformation—it's not just an internship.
