Support the expansion of the Disability Studies minor into a fully-fledged program at the University of Oregon, empowering students to delve into disability history, culture, and politics, fostering a more inclusive world.
UO's commitment to disability awareness is commendable, with the Disability Studies minor contributing significantly to creating an inclusive campus environment. The program's interdisciplinary approach draws from diverse fields such as architecture, literature, education, and psychology, providing students with a comprehensive understanding of disability issues. With over 85 students enrolled in less than a decade, it's evident that there's a demand for further growth.
To make this happen, we have two key projects:
Disability Studies Speaker Series: Combating feelings of isolation, especially prevalent among students facing disabilities, this series will provide a platform for renowned disability advocates and thought leaders. By fostering dialogue and mentorship opportunities, this initiative aims to inspire students and elevate the profile of UO Disability Studies nationally.
Disability Studies Internship Program: Your support will enable us to sustain and expand our internship program, facilitating experiential learning opportunities with diverse community partners, such as Mobility International USA (MIUSA), Oregon Supported Living Program, and Lane Schools. Through tailored experiences, students gain practical skills and develop a profound understanding of disability issues, shaping them into future change-makers.
With a generous gift from Holly Tabor and Eric Wilfrid, we're already halfway to our goal! Holly and Eric have challenged the UO community to meet their $18,100 gift and raise a total of $36,000 to support Disability Studies.
Your contribution will not only enrich the lives of students but also foster a more inclusive and empathetic campus culture. Join us in championing disability awareness and empowerment at UO.
