Brian Lanker was a prominent photographer, photojournalist, and documentary filmmaker. He won the Pulitzer Prize at age 25 for his groundbreaking photo series on women and natural childbirth. He has also won acclaim for his portraits of, among others, Maya Angelou, Rosa Parks, Lena Horne, and Steve Prefontaine.
The University of Oregon Library’s Special Collections is thrilled to have acquired the complete archive of Lanker’s life’s work from Lynda Lanker and her family.
We aim to make these important historical documents available to scholars around the world, promoting the study of Lanker’s groundbreaking body of work and inspiring new creations. To this end, we are raising funds to create a permanent endowment that will provide annual funding for a new Brian Lanker Research Award. This fund will establish research awards for scholars who wish to study Lanker’s work.
