Our Crowdfunding Groups
For the past 3 years, the Service-Learning Program, a University-wide program housed in the College of Education, has provided free, 100%-volunteer-staffed After School Programs at two local schools, Malabon Elementary School and Fairfield Elementary School. Both schools are located in a Promise Neighborhood, as identified by United Way of Lane County. Promise Neighborhoods are identified as in need of support with health, education, employment,and financial stability.
Our After School Program provides our students with the academic, emotional, and social support they might not be getting elsewhere. In addition to helping these elementary school students, we provide University of Oregon students with hands-on experience. Our student volunteers are helping with homework and creating educational and fun clubs. Some past clubs have been themed around science, art, math, world cultures, the environment, and foreign languages. With every new volunteer, the clubs are becoming better and better and more creative, but this also presents new challenges.
Up until now, any sort of supplies has come from volunteers purchasing them with their own personal funds. This is a problem for many of our volunteers who do not have the money to buy all of the supplies. Having limited access to resources limits the opportunities and creative potential for our volunteers and our kids, and we would like to change that. The donations we earn for this project will be used to buy supplies for the program, especially for the clubs.
