Help Duck Students in Crisis Due to COVID-19

In response to the nationwide COVID-19 outbreak, the UO family has come together like never before—despite widespread uncertainty, social distancing, and major disruption to your everyday lives.

We know we don’t need to tell you that current students will be among the hardest hit by these events, because so many of you have already reached out to ask how you can help. If you are able to give, the Students in Crisis Fund exists precisely for this type of situation—to help students meet urgent financial needs beyond their control.

During his virtual town hall March 30, UO President Michael H. Schill announced $1 million in philanthropic support for the Students in Crisis Fund, available immediately. But there's still much more to do. Since the beginning of the COVID-19 crisis, we have received over 930 student requests for more than $740,000 in emergency financial assistanceand those needs continue to grow.

Money from the Students in Crisis Fund can help students cope with unexpected medical bills, pay rent in the wake of a lost job, or purchase a plane ticket to fly home. Many students who apply for aid have no other resources to deal with these expenses.

We know you all of you face challenges of your own, and we are humbled and inspired by your commitment to meeting students’ unique needs, both now and during the difficult days ahead. Thank you for all you are doing to support the UO. We are so grateful to be part of such a generous and compassionate community.
